Fort Drum, NY – Fort Drum recently added another distinction to its long history of achievements: energy independence.
On Oct. 10, the local U.S. Army post connected one of its substations to the biopower facility in Black River operated by ReEnergy Holdings. The plant converts forestry waste into electricity and supplies all of Fort Drum’s energy needs.
Fort Drum is the only Army post to achieve energy independence. The U.S. Defense Logistics Agency last year awarded a 20-year contract to ReEnergy, worth more than $288 million, to provide this reliable source of electricity. Read More
