ReEnergy Holdings LLC

ReEnergy Holdings LLC is a company dedicated to environmental sustainability that currently provides management services and strategic guidance to, and has an ownership interest in, ReSource Waste Services LLC, a leading company in the waste and recycling industry in eastern New England. ReSource Waste’s mission is to optimize the recovery of materials from waste streams while prioritizing workplace health and safety.

Company Background

ReEnergy Holdings was formed in 2008 by a senior management team comprised of four experienced industry professionals along with an energy-sector focused private equity fund. Prior to that time, the co-founders had decades of experience working together in growing and selling companies in the solid waste and waste-to-energy industries.

During ReEnergy’s 10+ year partnership with this private equity fund the company acquired, owned and/or operated biomass-to-energy facilities in New England, New York and North Carolina. ReEnergy also acquired, owned and operated facilities in eastern New England that process and recycle construction and demolition debris, with an eye toward recovery of wood that would be used as fuel in several of ReEnergy’s biomass-to-energy facilities.

In 2019, ReEnergy’s co-founders completed a management buyout of the private equity fund’s ownership interest in ReEnergy and at that point intentionally segregated its biomass-to-energy and waste & recycling businesses to set the stage for growing these businesses on separate and distinct paths. From that point forward ReEnergy and its co-founders provided strategic direction and corporate support services to both of its biomass and waste & recycling divisions.

In early 2021, ReEnergy established a partnership with another private equity/infrastructure fund in its biomass-to-energy company (renamed ReGenerate Energy Holdings) to pursue growth opportunities, the first of which was the acquisition of a large biomass-to-energy facility in Albany, Georgia in June 2021.  ReEnergy sold its ownership interests in ReGenerate and two biomass-to-energy facilities in Maine to that fund in November 2023.

Current Activities

In late 2021, ReEnergy established a partnership with an affiliate of GCM Grosvenor in which GCM acquired a majority ownership interest in ReEnergy’s waste & recycling division (ReSource Waste Services), bringing industry experience and equity capital that is supporting the next chapter of ReSource Waste’s growth. The facilities owned and operated by ReSource Waste Services were acquired by ReEnergy over time: the Epping, NH and Salem, NH facilities in 2009; the Roxbury, MA facility in 2012; the Lewiston, ME facility in 2013; the Ware, MA facility in 2019; and then ReSource Waste Services acquired the Northeast Recycling (Avon, MA) collection company in 2024. Additional acquisitions and organic growth opportunities create an exciting future for ReSource Waste Services.
