US EPA and DOE look at developing renewables on landfills or mining sites

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) are looking at the feasibility of developing renewables on contaminated land like landfill or mining sites. The EPA is planning to invest around $1 million in projects across the US as part of the RE-Powering America’s Land Initiative. The projects will look at the potential of wind, solar, biomass or geothermal at 26 sites in Vermont, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Georgia, Mississippi, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, New Mexico, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Montana, California, Arizona, Oregon and Washington.
